Armadillo&Co Masai Weave Rug

Armadillo&Co founders Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst have expanded their Earth Collection with the two new lines. Sally grew up in Africa and Zimbabwe has provided the inspiration for the new hemp Serengeti and wool Masai Weaves.

“As a child I was mesmerized by the beautiful, traditional patterns of Africa”, says Sally. “There’s a naivety that’s also incredibly sophisticated in its simplicity.”

Jodie shares her enthusiasm. “Graphic designs have always been an influence in my work and I love the simplicity of the geometric diamond repetition, especially in the red, although we love that such a powerful design can be softened by natural tones, too.”

Hand crafted from 100% wool with quality detailing in the turned over ends and side binding, artisans in India achieve the meticulous handiwork. “We are passionate about our people,” Sally and Jodie enthuse. “That’s why we treat all of our extraordinary weavers with the highest ethical work standards.” Every piece in every Armadillo&Co collection embraces Fair Trade practices, is crafted from sustainable natural fibres including pure wool, jute, cotton and hemp, and all purchases benefit local schools in the weavers’ villages. “We don’t just want our rugs to look good” they add, “We want them to feel good, in every sense”.
