Armadillo&Co founders Jodie Fried and Sally Pottharst have expanded their Earth Collection with two new lines. Sally grew up in Africa and Zimbabwe has provided her with the inspiration for the new hemp Serengeti and wool Masai Weaves.

“As a child I was mesmerized by the beautiful traditional patterns of Africa”, says Sally. “There’s a naivety that’s also incredibly sophisticated in its simplicity.”

Jodie shares her enthusiasm. “Graphic designs have always been an influence in my work and I love the simplicity of the geometric diamond repetition , especially in the red, although we love that such a powerful design can be softened by natural tones, too.”

Offered in dynamic contrasting Charcoal/Natural and the more subtle tones of Natural/Ivory and Charcoal/Shale, each piece is hand woven from hard-wearing hemp in India by their talented team of artisans.

“It takes real expertise to craft the fine weave with such precision – look at those sharp corners!" Jodie enthuses, proudly tracing the deft zig-zagging handiwork. “Our weavers are so incredibly nimble fingered. It’s knowledge handed down through generations of families.”

These weavers are considered ‘extended family’ by Sally and Jodie, who demand the highest level of ethical work standards for their people.  Every piece in every collection embraces Fair Trade practices, is crafted from sustainable natural fibres including pure wool, jute, cotton and hemp and all purchases benefit local schools in our weavers’ villages.
