Giselle Pendant LightsHow unusual are these lamps! Made of twisted wire covered in abaca fibre and available in pendant or floor lamp configurations, the Giselle range is one of our favourites. The pendants are terrific in teams – hang several over the dining table or island bench for a fun, modern approach. Shown here with opaque light bulbs, clear works very well too, allowing the structure of the lamp to take centre stage. PLEASE NOTE: This pendant does not come wired for ceiling or light bulbs. These can easily be obtained from your electrician or local lighting store and are not very expensive. This way you can choose your finish and length of cord. Abaca is a species of banana that is native to the Philippines. The plant is harvested every 3-8 months for its fibre which is extracted from the leaf sheath around the trunk. These sheaths are then stripped to get the fibres, sun dried, coloured with organic dyes and then spun into twine or woven into tinalak. These products are made by a cooperative of farmers and weavers who keep an age old tradition alive. By buying these products, we are helping their community sustain itself, feed and educate their families and maintain a sense of independence and pride.
