Colour is back!...and there's no better way to get it than than with a mix of our deliciously pattered Ikat accent cushions. There is such romance surrounding the evolution of Ikat fabric, with its origins in the three thousand year old Silk Route between Europe and Asia. The blend of cotton and silk, which characterizes genuine Ikat, stems from the cultural exchanges made along the Silk Route; as Caravans traveled between East and West they exchanged cultural influences and skills. The captivating patterns are the stuff of fairy tales, with weavers inspired by the patterns of clouds reflected on water and the colours of oil spilled onto wine.
Uzbekistan was once a major branch of the ancient Silk Road; our stunning cushions are made from hand dyed and hand woven Ikat fabric from Uzbekistan true to the centuries old technique of Ikat weaving, which precisely ties and wraps silk threads and then dyes them to create the beautiful peacock-like floating patterns.
Of course, certain natural irregularities in dying and weaving are inherent to the manual process of Ikat making and should not be considered as defects. Moreover, due to the random and personal style of the patterns and cloth, each pattern will yield an accent cushion sewn into a unique interpretation of the Ikat design.
